Foam trailer to East Lyme

On Friday morning November 2nd for the crash involving two 18-wheelers and four cars on I-95 at Exit 75 in East Lyme, CT. A tanker truck had crashed into the other 18 wheeler which caused the tanker to roll over spilling approximately 8500 gallons of home heating fuel. Willington was called upon to respond to this call for use of the foam trailer. The foam trailer responded to the scene and fortuity did not need to apply any foam, but was on stand by if needed.

Grant For $45,635.00 Awarded

The Willington Fire Department # 1 has received a grant for $45,635.00 from the 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This funding will cover 90% of the cost of an air compressor and refilling station for our breathing apparatus, which until now we were graciously using UConn Fire Dept.'s station. We will also be purchasing 11 portable radios.

This highly competitive grant program has existed since 2001.  The DHS received over 20,000 grant requests this year and is expecting to award approximately 8,000 departments totaling  $745 million.

Other awardees in our area include Tolland ($216,832), Staffordville ($118,197) and Ashford ($44,316).
