The Willington Fire Department # 1
has
received a grant for $45,635.00 from the 2004 Assistance
to Firefighters Grant Program administered by the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security.
This funding will cover 90% of the cost of an air
compressor and refilling station for our breathing
apparatus, which until now we were graciously using UConn
Fire Dept.'s station. We will also
be purchasing 11 portable radios.
This highly
competitive grant program has existed since 2001.
The DHS received over 20,000 grant requests this year
and is expecting to award approximately 8,000
departments totaling $745 million.
Other awardees in our area include
Tolland ($216,832),
Staffordville ($118,197) and
Ashford ($44,316).
